Toolkit: how can disability organisations support inclusion of refugees and migrants with disabilities

29 February 2020

We are launching the EDF toolkit on inclusion of refugees and migrants with disabilities which provides information and practical guidance on this topic to organisations of persons with disabilities.

This toolkit is a continuation of our efforts to advocate for a human-rights based approach to migration. The toolkit was developed due to our members’ interest and commitment to fight for the rights of refugees and migrants with disabilities. The toolkit includes:

  • A brief background about the situation of refugees and migrants
  • Good practices and ideas on how to include the voices of refugees and migrants with disabilities in DPOs work
  • Recommendations on advocating to political decision-makers

One of the good examples documented in the toolkit is the Disabled Refugees Welcome (DRW) project. The project supports the inclusion of refugees with disabilities through several actions, including documenting their needs and wishes, providinge peer support or support in accessing social services, assistive devices, or obtaining personal assistance.

We hope the toolkit will contribute for better inclusion of refugees and migrants with disabilities in society. You can find it below
