Technology Solutions for Engaging and Retaining Persons with Disabilities in the Workplace – COSP19 Side event

Thursday, June 13, 2019 - 09:45
1h15 (one hour and fifteen minutes)
Conference Room B

Persons with disabilities (PWDs) represent a critical talent pool whose economic and social contribution to the workforce is widely acknowledged yet significantly underutilized. Consequently, their employment rates remain low. To improve inclusivity in the workplace and increase rates of employment amongst PWDs, technological advancements in mainstream and assistive technology should be leveraged. With the increasingly positive trends in device and internet use, and literacy levels in the Global South, the opportunity to harness this to engage PWDs in the workforce is propitious. This side event will present initial findings of i2i - Innovation to Inclusion. This DFID-funded programme is designed to pilot innovative market-based ICT interventions to improve access and retention to waged employment in the private sector for PWDs. The event will include discussions from key partners within this Leonard Cheshire-led Consortium, including the World Bank, ILO, GDI Hub and others.
