Joint letter: Ensure fundamental rights protections in the Council position on the AI Act

Civil society open letter to the Czech Presidency and Ministers working on the European Union Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act. EDF together with the European Digital Rights (EDRi) and 12 civil we are calling for Council to make some major changes to uphold fundamental rights in the face of discriminatory and surveillant Artificial Intelligence-systems.

We’re calling for:

1. Rights and redress to empower people to challenge AI
2. Accountability and public transparency measures, including FRIAs
3.  Civil society participation in all procedures related to the AI act
4. Accessibility for all AI systems
5. Prohibitions on mass surveillance, predictive policing, harmful uses in migration & more
