JOB TITLE:Social Policy Officer

REPORTS TO: Director

PURPOSE OF JOB: To support the policy work related to the key objectives of the European Disability Forum


Ideally full-time, with flexible working hours

Responsible for ensuring the implementation of EDF strategy and action plans in the field of Social Policy. This includes employment, social protection, the EU budget (including European structural and investment funds), public procurement and state aid, deinstitutionalisation and independent living, European education and training programmes, statistics, and European economic strategy and policies (Europe 2020, European Semester, etc)


To monitor and influence EU Social Policies and Economic policies and initiatives

  • To alert the European Disability Forum to threats and opportunities for persons with disabilities
  • To assist in the development of campaigning strategies to influence EU policies

To coordinate advocacy towards European institutions including:

  • Organising meetings with European institutions officials, including members of the European Parliament, policy advisors, Council working parties, permanent representations
  • Writing and promoting amendments to legislative texts
  • Writing political statements and resolutions

To provide user-friendly, accessible information for EDF members

  • To research and write briefings and reports on social policy initiatives and programmes
  • To produce accurate, regular internal and external communication (via newsletters, web articles and social media)
  • To plan, write and publish agreed documents in the social policy field

To undertake research and provide background briefings and information for members and external organisations on request

  • To provide the required comprehensive and tailored information about EU matters to effectively support EDF members in their work
  • To contribute in the preparation of and assist with EDF meetings and meetings between EDF and external organisations and actors.

To ensure the representation of EDF in social policy networks

The Social Policy Officer ensures the representation of EDF in important networks and processes, participating directly in technical meetings and supporting members and elected representatives in political dialogue and event

  • Representative in the Social Platform task forces on social standards, EU funding, and other social policies
  • Representative in the European Expert Group on transition from institutional to community based care ensuring that EDF national members are involved as much as possible in EEG initiatives
  • Representative, as assistant to the President, in the European Structural and Investment Funds Structural Dialogue
  • Representative of EDF in Strategic Dialogue meetings on inclusive growth and European semester with the European Commission
  • Represent EDF in relevant projects

All tasks are to be implemented on the basis of decisions adopted by the EDF governing bodies and to be aligned with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
