  • Regional Forum for Sustainable Development: Europe is getting ready for the High Level Political Forum

    22.03.2018 We attended the second Regional Forum on Sustainable Development. The forum focuses on monitoring the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and took place on the 1st and 2nd March. The forum was organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE). They promote sustainable development in the ECE region. The ECE region has 56 Member States and includes Europe, but also countries in North America (Canada and United States), Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) and Western Asia (Israel).     20.03.2018 The European Parliament Transport and Tourism Committee rapporteur, M. Liberadzki, has now published his draft report to European Commission proposal for a recast of Regulation 1371/2007. As the regulation includes important provision on the right to transport and the right to assistance, we published a position paper last October highlighting our key priorities for the revision.   • 7 years of war in Syria: Children with disability face extreme risk of exclusion.

    UNICEF launched the “Disabled children, Enabled futures” campaign on the 12 March 2018. The campaign focus on the extreme risk that children with disabilities have been facing in Syria for the last 7 years. The campaign calls for: an end to war, investment in lifesaving support, improved access to inclusive services (health, nutrition, education, water and child protection) and support for the reconstruction efforts.   • Historical day for persons with disabilities in Europe as Ireland ratifies CRPD

    08.03.2018 EDF celebrates the ratification by Ireland of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as this marks a historical moment for persons with disabilities and their families in Ireland and Europe. Ireland signed the CRPD in March 2007, and waited more than 10 years to ratify. The Dáil (House of Parliament) approved yesterday evening a resolution that enables Ireland to ratify the CRPD.
